Aberfeldie Primary School Parents' Club

Parents' Club provides opportunities for parents to get to know each other, to be informed about the school, and to work together to raise much needed funds for the benefit of the school. There is something for everyone in Parents' Club- whether you want to be actively involved in one of our social or fundraising events, join at us meetings, take on an office-bearing position, or just receive the minutes and stay in touch! Ideally we would like all parents to become members. The annual subscription is only $3 per year. (And kids love to know their parents are actively involved in the school!)

Our Meetings

We welcome all members of the school community to our monthly meetings, which provide parents with an opportunity to communicate openly with the Principal. (All meetings are attended by the Principal or a staff representative.) We usually have a guest speaker to discuss a topic of interest to parents, such as "How to help your child get the most from their reading", "Body Image in Children", or "The School Leadership Program". Meeting dates are advertised in the weekly school bulletin- we aim to provide a selection of morning, afternoon and evening meetings. At all times children are most welcome to attend meetings with their parents. Refreshments are provided.

We Welcome New Ideas

In 2006, Parents' Club was involved in the following new activities in addition to fundraising:

Fundraising

Parents' Club runs a number of social and fundraising events each year. In 2006 our major purchases were a Multi- media Unit for the whole school ($4500), and we funded most of the new Outdoor Stage/ Covered Outdoor Learning Area ($20,000 plus a BHP grant for $5000), which was completed by early 2007. In recent years Parents Club have contributed $13,500 for the new playground and $5,000 for the school's computer program, and set aside funds towards this year's installation of air conditioning in the 3/4 building. We also raise some money for charity each year. Being involved with a fundraiser is actually a lot of fun!! Meet new friends, discover skills you never knew you had and help make Aberfeldie the best place it can be!

The Uniform Shop is run by Parents' Club and any profits go to areas of need within the school.

Name Labels It is important that all items of clothing belonging to your child as well as lunch boxes etc are clearly named. Parents' Club have established a relationship with "Stuck on You" (see enclosed brochure) so that commission is received on label orders. You may wish to consider using this company for your labels.

Student banking is run by Parents' Club. The Commonwealth Bank pays the school a commission of 50c per deposit to Parents' Club irrespective of the amount of the deposit made. A great way to encourage good saving habits in your child!

Scholastic Book Club brochures are distributed once a term, coordinated by Parents' Club. Scholastic donates a percentage of all sales as books to the school library.

Other Ways of Being Involved

In addition to Parents' Club, parents have many other opportunities to be involved in the school community. These include School Council, Classroom help, Working bees, the Fete, sport and excursions.

Parents' Club warmly welcomes you and your family to Aberfeldie Primary School, and we hope that your association with the school will be a long and happy one. We hope that you will find being involved in Parents' Club is a rewarding part of that association. Whether you are new to Aberfeldie, or already have children at the school, please feel free to pop in to a meeting or a coffee morning- we would love to meet you!
